I am here to make the Tri-State Defender the best communication tool we ever have had in the Mid-South and the nation. That is my goal as this newspaper’s new executive editor.
The newspaper is a business. I intend for the Tri-State Defender to be highly successful and make money. This is my vision of it.
The people of Greater Metro Memphis need an outlet for resolution of their thoughts and aspirations and dreams. They will be heard. Something will be done about what they share.
I am here because of a mutual need. For me, being at the Tri-State Defender is one of those instances that may seem as if it is a coincidence, but is not. I have spent a major portion of my life in the media, having worked 26.5 years for this city’s daily newspaper. Since I have been out of the mainstream media, I have gathered more information about this city and its people; its problems; and about what the media can do to facilitate communication.
We are in a city that does not have a way to talk to itself and the future cannot grow. I intend to provide a medium where the citizens of Memphis and Shelby County and the Mid-South can talk to themselves and be successful at it.
I am convinced that people must feel like they can be heard in a substantive way.
This is my outlook.
