This year the Africa in April Cultural Awareness Festival saluted the Republic of Mauritania, a country in northwest Africa. Organizers celebrated 23 years of African History and Culture on internationally famous Beale Street at Robert R. Church Park April 16 - 19. (Photos by Warren Roseborough)

The Queens of Zion musical group perform Reggae music, at Africa in April. Their song, “We will be forever Loving JA!” got the crowd moving to the beat.

 
The Signature & Ballet Company performed for Africa in April on Saturday. The theme was Family Health/Wellness, Community Day, and the soulful sounds of the Blues often filled the air.

 
Melvin Taylor and his pet 7 year-old Iguana enjoy the entertainment at Africa in April. The crowds were filled with interesting characters and colorfully dressed men and women who found meaningful ways to express themselves.
