The Class
of 2009 has triumphed in the classroom and in life. A number of high school
graduates this year have dealt with problems that once signaled adulthood: the
murder of close friends; sick or unemployed parents; turf wars, motherhood and
more.
Many
college graduates managed to overcome financial hardships as the economy turned
soured right as they were headed for the finish line. But still, they rise. Those
who walked down the aisle in May and received degrees and diplomas have
accomplished something major. This special Tri-State Defender section is a salute
to them.
