 JOB DESCRIPTION
Engineer Civil/Structural
Memphis, TN

BASIC FUNCTION: Performs engineering functions, which include the design of structures, prototype development, structure testing and material and cost studies relative to assigned projects. Employee reports to the Regional Engineering Supervisor in the Department of Engineering within the Steel Structures Group.

SCOPE: Encompasses the design, development, and modification activities for tubular products of the Steel Structures Group.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
• Four years post-secondary education with a Bachelor of Sci-
  ence Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• EIT Desirable.
• 0-3 years of work experience.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Considerable supervision received.
WORK PERFORMED:
• Analyzes prospective customer’s specifications.
• Consults with Supervisor and Marketing Development Man-
  ager and Customer for clarification and interpretation of
  specifications.
• Consults with Supervisor and Marketing Development Man-
  ager as necessary for the design approach most favorable
  to steel structures assigned project.
• Designs structures and appurtenances as interpreted from
  and described by customer specifications using aids (com-
  puter programs, charts and curves) where applicable.
• Prepares design calculations and cost estimating informa-
  tion of proposed designs for use by Marketing in bidding
  process.
• Upon receipt of Job Order and Project assignment from Su-
  pervisor, completes final designs of all the components ac-
  cording to the Jobscope Releases, which may include de-
  signs other than originally specified in the bid proposal.
• Design calculations and cost estimating information as re-
  quired by changes.
• Resolves problems of ambiguity during Drafting of Shop
  Drawings.
• Review and redesigns as required any customer changes.
• Reports the impact of design changes to the Contract Ad-
  ministrator via Lotus Notes.
• As assigned by Supervisor checks design work of other De-
   sign Engineers.
• Develops test procedures, supervises the actual testing and
   writes the test reports for full scale testing of struc-
   tures/components for either customer requirements or R&D
   project that have been assigned

A Prime Contractor must prequalify with the Department of Transportation in accordance with Section 54-5-117 of the “Tennessee Code Annotated” and Tennessee Department of Transportation Rule 1680-5-3 prequalification of contractors before biddable proposals will be furnished.

To be added to the official bidders list, each prospective bidder and subcontractor will be required to file a document entitled "Pre-qualification Questionnaires." The foregoing shall be filed on a form provided by the  Department of Transportation.  The form must be filled out completely, and the truth and accuracy of the information provided must be certified by a sworn affidavit signed by an officer, partner, owner or other authorized representative of the applicant who has authority to sign contracts or other legal documents on behalf of the applicant. A prospective bidder must be pre-qualified by and in good standing with the Department of Transportation prior to being given authorization to bid.  A prospective subcontractor must be pre-qualified by and in good standing with the Department of Transportation prior to being approved as a subcontractor.  Each prospective bidder or subcontractor shall notify the Department of Transportation if there is any subsequent change in the name, organization or contact information provided.
 
Prospective bidders' "Pre-qualification Questionnaire" shall be filed with the Department of Transportation at least fourteen (14) days prior to the date of opening bids on any letting in which the applicant intends to submit a bid to the Department of Transportation, or at least fourteen (14) days prior to the date on which the applicant requests approval as a subcontractor under a contract awarded by the Department of Transportation.  Bidders intending to submit proposals consistently shall complete and submit the pre-qualification application annually; however, this document may be changed during such period upon submission of additional favorable reports or upon receipt by the Department of Transportation of substantiated evidence of unsatisfactory performance.  The Department of Transportation reserves the right to request additional information and documentation to clarify and/or verify any information submitted in an applicant's pre-qualification application.
 
The bidder shall arrange for twelve percent (12%) of the work to be performed by Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs) or clearly demonstrate adequate good faith efforts as described herein.
 
Ripley/Lauderdale County hereby notifies all bidders that it will affirmatively insure that in any contract entered into pursuant to this advertisement, disadvantaged business enterprises will be afforded full opportunity to submit bids in response to this invitation, and will not be discriminated against on the grounds of age, race, color, religion, national origin, sex or disability in consideration for an award.
