The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday that a state grand jury has indicted Memphis City Councilwoman Janis Fullilove-Chalmers for unlawfully using a state issued driver license and fraudulently obtaining a driver license.
According to the indictment, Fullilove-Chalmers requested a duplicate license from a driver license examiner on March 25, 2008, after claiming her original license was lost. The indictment indicates her license had been seized instead by the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office.
The councilwoman also was indicted for driving on a revoked license. Her car was seized as well. She was arrested Wednesday morning and was held on a $5,000 bond for the most recent charge. She was taken into custody also for charges filed against her in October.
An arraignment date in criminal court has not been set. If convicted, Fullilove-Chalmers could spend at least a year in jail.
