Ugwueke takes helm at Methodist North Hospital
Methodist South Chief Executive Officer Michael O. Ugwueke will take on the role of CEO/Administrator at Methodist North Hospital in addition to his current responsibilities.

Ugwueke replaces Steve Miller who has served as interim administrator since former Methodist North CEO/Administrator William Kenley became CEO of Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown last month.

“With the selection of Michael for this role, I am confident we have found a creative new way to secure strong leadership for both our North and South hospitals,” said Gary S. Shorb, President and CEO of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare.  “This innovative approach allows us to speed the transfer of best practices and standardization across the system while operating more efficiently.”

Ugwueke is taking the reins at Methodist North at a strong point in its history, as it was the first hospital in the Methodist system to become fully electronic in early 2008.  Methodist North also has strong cardiac and orthopedic programs.

Since joining Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in 2007, Ugwueke has collaborated closely with the medical staff as well as community leaders in Methodist South’s service area, and he has demonstrated a strong commitment to patient and family centered care.

Ugwueke brings more than 20 years of experience in health care operations and strategic planning.  Prior to joining Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, he served as vice president of Operations for Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center, a 517-bed tertiary hospital and flagship facility for the Provena System in Illinois.  He has a doctorate in Health Administration and Leadership from Medical University of South Carolina, a Master of Public Health with a concentration in Planning and Administration from Emory University, and a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in Biology/Pre-med from Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina.

In addition, Ugwueke is Board Certified in Healthcare Management and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and a member of National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE).
