Victory N Health Community Health & Enrollment Fair:Sept. 17-18, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., Forest Park Apartments, 939 Frayser Blvd. Event will provide uninsured individuals access to preventive services and screenings as well as present an opportunity for expectant mothers to enroll in pre-natal plans.
Frayser Faith-based Infant Mortality Awareness Luncheon:Sept. 19, noon, Union Grove Baptist, 2285 Frayser Blvd. Shelby County Mayor A C Wharton will serve as the keynote speaker for this gathering of faith leaders in the 38127 zip code. The luncheon’s theme is “Healthy Babies, Healthy Communities.”
Greater Community Temple Health Fair:Sept. 19, 11 a.m.- 4 p.m., Greater Community Temple, 5151 Winchester Rd. Greater Community Temple will host an Expo to include health care information for expectant mothers. Other exhibitors include professionals in real estate, education, nutrition and financial planning.
NAACP TN State Conference “Community Day” Panel Discussion:Sept. 24, 2 p.m.- 3:15 p.m., First Baptist Church- Broad, 2835 Broad Ave. Local leaders will participate in a panel discussion about the social factors that play a significant role in the high rate of infant mortality in the African-American community. Panelists include staff from the Memphis and Shelby County Health Department, local hospitals and All Babies Count.
iM AWARE Infant Mortality Awareness 5K:Sept. 26 at 9 a.m., Hickory Ridge Mall, 6075 Winchester Rd. Infant Mortality Awareness Walk designed to increase public knowledge about infant mortality and its impact on the community. The walk will be held in the Hickory Hill area and include participation from community based organizations, non-profits, health care agencies along with the faith based community. Monies raised from the 5k will go towards funding The Baby Store, a community resource for expectant and new mothers in Shelby County. To register, visit
