Memphis Democratic Club to bring candidate forum to The LeMoyne-Owen College
Why Consolidation? Why tax equity? Race relations in Memphis. Re-development of the Pyramid. African-American economic empowerment.
These are some of the questions and issues likely to surface Saturday during the City of Memphis Mayoral Candidate’s Forum sponsored by the Memphis Democratic Club at the LeMoyne-Owen College, 807 Walker Ave.
The forum runs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will be held in the Student Union Building. Other sponsors include the LeMoyne-Owen College Political Science Division, the National Action Network and the Tri-State Defender.
Panelists are Deidre Malone, Shelby County Commissioner and president of the Carter Malone Group; Roby S. Williams, head of the Black Business Association; Dr. Freda Williams, a member of the Memphis City Schools Board of Commissioners and an adjunct professor emeritus at The LeMoyne-Owen College; and Dr. Karanja A. Ajanaku, executive editor of the Tri-State Defender.
The moderators for the forum are attorney Dr. Larry Moore, a political analyst and University of Memphis associate professor, and Linda K. Reed, a community organizer and Memphis Democratic Club (MDC) fellow.
