I normally don’t use pop culture catch phrases, but this past Sunday’s Basement Soul Lounge was “off the chain.” Do you like Marvin Gaye, DeAngelo, Al Green and Donny Hathaway? Well, if you had all of these artists rolled up into one, you’d have Tim Terry.

Terry performed at the Rumba Room this past Sunday night for the Basement Soul Lounge. And if you were in the house, I’m sure you were pleasantly surprised. If you stayed home, shame on you. You missed a great show. You also missed a great opportunity to support a talented local artist.
Listening to him, you’d swear that he was in the circle with some of the big name neo-soul artists such as DeAngelo, Raheem Devaughn and Musiq SoulChild. That’s because talent wise, he is. Not only is he a performer, he also is a talented songwriter and composer. He kept the crowd excited, engaged and wanting more.
And of course, I am an advocate for Memphis music and Memphis artists. So it goes without saying, let’s support Tim Terry and show him some love. If you would like to check out his music, visit his MySpace page. He has a few great songs posted there. My personal favorite is “I’m Ready”.
Big props to my friend, Corey Davis, for putting another classy event. If you didn’t get a chance to catch the Basement Soul Lounge last weekend, don’t worry. Were gonna do it again on November 22. The next artist to perform at the Basement Soul Lounge will be Eric Cross, so mark your calendars! It all goes down at the Rumba Room located at 303 South Main Street in Downtown Memphis. Ask Myron:Q: “Did the new Michael Jackson’s movie “This is It” do as well as you thought it would at the box office?”
R. Smith, Memphis
A: Not only did it do as well as I thought it would, it did even better. My prediction was about $80 million at the box office. It exceeded my estimate by over $20 million with a worldwide debut of $101 million. I also predicted that the film would stay longer than two weeks in movie theaters. Sony Pictures announced this week “This is It” will stay around through Thanksgiving. I mean how can you show a Michael Jackson movie for just a few days?
Q: “What has been up with Morgan Freeman since the accident, his divorce and the situation with his step-grandaughter? “
M. Smith, Memphis
A: Apparently, Morgan Freeman hasn’t lost his appeal. His voice can still be heard on Visa commercials on various major TV networks and he has also been tapped to executive produce and star in a still unnamed comedy film for Warners Brothers Pictures. The film follows an aging playboy who finally meets the love of his life, while his best friend does everything he can to try to break them up. Freeman plays the best friend. Ironically, the film originally was named “Dirty Old Men”.
Freeman can be seen next in the upcoming film, “Invictus” where he portrays Nelson Mandela. It’s directed by Clint Eastwood.
