For Memphis City Schools students and teachers, two weeks of school-free days are within sight. Today (Dec. 17) is the last day for students this calendar year. The break for teachers begins after an in-service day on Friday.

Students and teachers are anxious for the break to begin. I will be spending my school-free days with friends and family and getting ready for 2010.

Wondering what others would be doing, I proposed the following question: What about the Christmas Break, do you look forward to the most and what do you want for Christmas?

Here’s a sampling of the responses:

“I look forward to the basketball trip to Columbia, Ohio, with Ridgeway’s basketball team.”
Hasina Muhammad, 16
“I am looking forward to personal time to reflect on what’s truly most important in my life: my relationships with God, family, and friends. For Christmas, I really want a 17-inch Apple MacBook Pro, but I’ll take that 13-inch!”
Andrea Smith, teacher, Middle College High School

“I look forward to all the rest I can get and eating food, food, and more food. For Christmas, I want something that comes with a pair of car keys.”
Ingrid Oliver, 18

“I’m looking forward to spending time with my family and friends. I am also going to send off all my college applications.”
Erika Hubbard, 17

“I look forward to being out of school and starting and working on my makeup Web site. I want a new phone for Christmas.”
Raeshuna Collier, 17

“I look forward to rest and food. All I want for Christmas is love and money.”
Jessica Patterson, 17

“I’m looking forward to spending time with my loved ones and being done with college applications. I want a new camera and fuzzy dice for my car for Christmas.”
Ashley Williams, 17

“I’m looking forward to spending time with family and eating food. I want some shoes, money, a laptop, and a new Zune.”
Justin Kearney, 17

“I look forward to being with my family and I want a laptop.”
Kentoria Smith, 17

“Well, I look forward to the giving part. Every year, my friends and I, along with out ministry leaders, give to less fortunate families, whether it’s clothes or food because a lot of times they won’t receive anything for Christmas. It’s our way of giving back to our community.”
Chasity Banks, 18

“I look forward to sleeping in and I don’t want anything for Christmas, but to keep my life the way it is now.”
Jerien Glass, 15

“During Christmas Break, I look forward to spending time with family and friends. Since losing my uncle early in September, that time is really important. Now that I am of age, I’m really not sure what to ask for Christmas. I think my best bet is money!”
Khari Eason, 18

“This year, I didn’t ask for anything. The only thing I want is a “peace of mind,” which means no worries, but for Christmas, I wish that my family could be together like we have since I could remember, but, unfortunately, we won’t.”
Asia Washington, 17

“Spending time with my family and fellowshipping with loved ones, friends, and, of course, being away from school. For Christmas, I want an iMac notebook.”
Kadeem Phillip, 18

“What I look forward to is all of my family getting together and having a great time. One thing I want is to get out of T-High, which is Trezevant High School!”
Keyno Small, 18

“I look forward to spending time with my family and I want a new camera.”
Portia Rucker, 16

“What I look forward to the most is enjoying the holidays with the family and resting before my graduation year begins. What I want for Christmas is a Coogi coat and Coach boots.”
Martina Westbrook, 18

“I look forward to spending time with family and friends and I would like money for Christmas.”
Taisha Collins, 16

“I look forward to all the family getting together, eating the food, and my mama and I staying up all night cooking. I also look forward to laughing and joking around with my cousin. All I want for Christmas is a scholarship for school to help me pay my tuition.”
Salina Murph, 22

“I look forward to being with my friends and family and just enjoying myself. For Christmas, I want a bracelet and a necklace with my name on it.”
Paige Lee, 15
