Ask Myron: Review mirror look at 2009
We lost, we gained, we laughed and we cried.

Here are some of the biggest stories of the year that we have come to know as 2009.

We remember Michael Jackson

This is the biggest story of 2009…at least in my book. It’s been over six months and it still does not seem like this actually happened. “Michael Jackson is dead.” Even saying it now only seems like an Internet rumor.

On June 25th, the world lost its beloved “King of Pop” to cardiac arrest at the age of 50. Details surrounding his death are still not totally clear. He was on the cusp of a comeback that the world never got the chance to see. His last work, “This Is It,” which included rehearsal footage from his upcoming tour, became the highest grossing concert film in history. He has actually sold over 7 million albums since his death, proving that Michael Jackson was the one and only “King of Pop.”

During his funeral, the world got the chance to see that his children were actually normal, which also showed the world that although Michael Jackson was eccentric entertainer to us, he was “daddy” to them.

Tiger Woods

In 2009, the world got a chance to see a side of Tiger Woods that few knew existed. In what started out as a mysterious car accident, we later discovered that it was only a page in a book that included infidelity and proved that absolutely no one is perfect. As it stands, a large number of his mistresses have spoken out and many of his sponsors have walked away. He has now decided to take an infinite break from the golf world he dominated and focus on family. Perhaps in 2010, he might be able to turn his situation around.

President Obama takes office

President Barack Obama took office in 2009. People from all over the country traveled to our nation’s capital to witness history as the 44th president of the United States was sworn in. Entertainers and sports figures galore attended the ceremony, Nearly one year later, the office isn’t without its challenges as the nation works to stabilize activity in the Middle East and recover from one of the worst recessions in U.S. history.

Chris Brown & Rihanna

Earlier this year, we discovered why the couple that would be known as “Chrianna” failed to show up at the Grammies. Pictures of Rihanna surface on the web after a fight between the two. In June, Brown was charged with assault and he later he entered a guilty plead. As it stands now, Rihanna is doing quite well with her new album and Brown’s new album is struggling to move units. Why am I reminded of Ike Turner? I got some advice for you Chris. Call me.

We interrupt this program…

Thanks to Kanye West, MTV and Taylor Swift had a quite memorable year. At this year’s Video Music Awards, West walked on stage and took the mic from Taylor Swift as she attempted to accept her award for Best Female Video that she won over Beyoncé. But next year, you will see the direct results of that fiasco when Taylor Swift goes home with most of the Grammies for 2010. Hey Kanye, I need a favor. I’m trying to get this career thing to the next level and I need a boost. Call me.

Oprah ending her show

Oprah Winfrey announced earlier this year that she will be ending her syndicated daytime show in 2011 after 25 years on television. This gives me about a year and a half to make it to the couch. I really got work to do. Hey “O,” call me.

As 2010 gives us the mindless information we love, yours truly will be there giving you the latest developments – as well as my opinionated views. I hope your 2010 is at least as joyous as your 2009! Happy New Year!
