I have two big questions. How long can you put the wrong date on your checks before its inexcusable? How long is it before ‘new’ is not considered new anymore?

Ask Myron: Predictions for the year ahead

Happy New Year!

We are one week into it and I haven’t lost any weight yet. These days, weight loss is the number one resolution for so many people. Well, my number one resolution is to keep you informed on everything entertainment related for 2010. Last week I gave you my recap of 2009; now, my predictions for 2010.

Singer Chris Brown will make a second attempt at a comeback. This time he just might fare a little bit better if his people decide to have him do a “softer” comeback. He really has to show his sensitive side in order to win back the fan base he lost during last year’s scandal. He has to come across as less threatening.

Maxwell will dominate this year’s Grammy Awards and take home at least five of the six awards for which he’s been nominated. This will reassure us that talent still is appreciated in the world of popular music.

Writer and radio personality Myron Mays will make his way into the world of syndicated radio and television this year with his own nationally syndicated radio and TV show. It will be a success and he will live happily ever after in worldwide stardom. One can dream right? Now let’s see if my predictions are correct.

On Another Note:

Once again, if you missed this past Sunday’s Basement Soul Lounge at the Rumba Room, you missed a great show. Local artist Karen Brown performed and she was nothing short of phenomenal. It’s almost like this girl just opens her mouth and all kinds of angels  just start flying out of there.

In my personal opinion, I feel that 2010 will be a big year for Neo-Soul music. So be on the lookout for Karen. She has so much stage presence and so many star qualities, it is almost easy to forget that she is from Memphis. So I say to you, enjoy her while you can! I don’t think Memphis will be able to hold her for long. There is so much wonderful talent here in Memphis, musically and comically as well.

Speaking of comedy, I have to give it up for local comedienne Mzzz. Kecia. Yes, she really has all of those Z’s in her name, and if you don’t pronounce all of them she will correct you. Though I’ve known her, I’ve  never seen her in action until this past Sunday. She was actually a late addition to the show. This is a funny woman. And she doesn’t even have to cuss to get a laugh. That’s rare in this day in age. You can check her out this year in an upcoming BET Comicview special called “A Time to Laugh,” hosted by Gospel singer Vicki Winans. In the meantime, check out her Web site. I see some big things in store for her this year. And oh yes, we will have her back.

NOTE: The Basement Soul Lounge happens every first and third Sunday at the Rumba Room at 303 South Main from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. Admission is $10. For more information, just visit www.memphis rebirth.com. No excuses!

Ask Myron:

Q: “Has Darius McCrary of “Family Matters” joined the cast of “The Young and the Restless?”

M. Jackson, Memphis

A: Darius McCrary, best known for his role of Eddie Winslow on “Family Matters,” has taken on the role of Malcolm Winters, the role originally played by actor Shemar Moore. You know what’s funny is no matter what role this guy plays I cannot help but to think of him as the character Eddie Winslow. I think most people will probably say, “Hey that’s Eddie Winslow playing Malcolm on ‘Young and the Restless.’”
