Ask Myron: It’s my anniversaries!
This month, I am celebrating two anniversaries. Yes, that anniversary plural.

In January of 2008, I opened the microphone for the first time and greeted the Mid-South on Soul Classics 103.5, the fourth radio station I have been on. In just two short years, I can be found on the radio pretty much all the time. Just turn it on; I’m probably on right now!

Fifteen years ago, I decided that radio was what I wanted to do. Throughout my life, I have listened to radio. It is my lifeline to memorable moments. Whenever I would learn of my favorite entertainers dying, I heard it from the radio. When I heard about the incidents of September 11th, I was listening to the radio.

I think you’re probably getting the picture.

I plan to give my 2010 listeners more of the things they have come to expect from me – the reasonable as well as the ridiculous.

Just a few days after I began at 103.5, I introduced the world to my literary skills as I wrote the very first “Ask Myron” column. Two years and over 100 columns and articles later, “Ask Myron” continues to build steam. I am constantly on the trail of good, compelling material. What keeps my wheels turning each week is knowing that you will always have your eyes tuned in for the column. And for that, I am eternally grateful.

Thanks to everyone who has followed me over the past two years. I appreciate your compliments and your criticism. We all have a purpose and calling. I challenge you to discover yours. I am deeply humbled and honest when I say, “There’s no me, without you.”

Expect great things from Myron this year!

Another note: We remember Willie ‘Pops’ Mitchell

Just days ago, Memphis and the world lost a true musical gem in Willie “Pops” Mitchell. The man who created the signature sound that would define the careers of Soul singer Al Green and songstress Ann Peebles passed away on Jan. 5.

Ashland, Miss., native and Memphis-raised Mitchell was best known as the producer of most of Green’s hits, and the one who signed him to Hi Records. And in my opinion, there is not a more recognizable sound in the history of popular music than that of Mitchell’s creations. He was also a successful artist himself in the 60’s. I would just like to say, “Thanks ‘Pops’.”

Ask Myron:

Q: “I read that Will Smith and Denzel Washington are going to do a remake of “Uptown Saturday Night.” Is this true? I’m going to make sure I catch this if it is.”

R. Smith, Memphis

A: As it stands, the project has been pitched to Denzel Washington and he has shown interest, however, he is not attached to the film as of yet. The rights to the original film, which starred Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier, was bought in 2002 by Smith, who has been wanting to remake the film for quite some time. We will have to see if Denzel decides to jump on board. If so, I will be catching it along with you.

Q: “Is Keisha Cole pregnant?”

S. Richardson, Memphis

A: Short and to the point huh? I like those kinds of questions. Well, according to a rep for 28-year-old Cole, the pregnancy has been confirmed, as well as her engagement to the baby’s father, Daniel Gibson of the Cleveland Cavaliers. He proposed on New Year’s Eve. She is set to release her fourth album later this year.
