Hip Hop 4 Haiti unfolds in Memphis and elsewhere
On Sat. Jan. 30, Hip Hop 4 Haiti is unfolding as a national day for the youth and hip hop community to contribute to the relief effort of Haiti.

In Memphis and other cities, supporters have organized The Hip Hop 4 Haiti Food & Clothing Drive. The drive kicks off at noon at the Stax Museum.

Queen YonasDa LoneWolf is the visionary for the national move.

“I am an activist/rap artist/writer and the National Director of the Indigenous Nations Alliance-Millions More Movement, but most importantly a person, just like yourself that watched on the news of the horrible events from the earthquake in Haiti just recently on Jan. 12, 2010,” she said.

“I am the type of person who can’t just sit back and watch people over there dying, losing everything in seconds. So, I went into prayer and I came back with an idea ‘Hip Hop 4 Haiti.’ I was going to make it a local event just in Arizona, but once I posted it on all social networking sites it became a HUGE thing! With many people of the Hip Hop community I am good friends with, they automatically wanted to be involved.”

Kareem Ali, Memphis-area organizer for the Million Father March, said the earthquake in Haiti has affected the hearts of people throughout the world.

“When we became aware of the national campaign for the Hip Hop community to unite and support the people of Haiti, we immediately sent out emails and made calls to the great hip hop personalities of Memphis such as Three Six Mafia, 8Ball and MJG, Drumma Boy and others and they fervently agreed to support.”

Grammy winning platinum producer Carlos Brody said, “I support the Hip Hop 4 Haiti National Support Day. I feel that Memphis itself lies on a fault and is vulnerable to such a tragedy. We must show our support.”

DJ Lil Larry from HOT 107FM, said, “Memphis should step up to show their support. As a part of the Hip Hop community I feel that we (must) show the world we have hearts and are concerned about the well being of the human family”

The community is being asked to bring non-perishable food items and clothing.
