This past weekend, I visited my dream school, High Point University in High Point, N.C. The university held its Presidential Scholarship Competition, which I was invited to participate in.

My parents and I drove the 12 hours from Memphis to High Point. Actually, I drove most of the way; it was a pretty nice ride. My dad slept in the backseat most of the way while my mom and I chilled – talking, listening to music, and with her taking lots of photos.

While visiting the campus, I met some really cool people – students and faculty. The campus is beautiful and I fell in love with it during a tour. The dorms, classrooms, arcade, movie theatre, cafeteria and everything else about the school are top notch. I can actually see myself as a student at High Point.

My parents liked what they saw and what the school had to offer as well. During the scholarship competition, I was asked numerous questions about myself. I think I nailed the answers. My experience as the Tri-State Defender iTeen reporter seemed to carry some weight. In about three weeks, I will find out how much money the school can contribute toward my education. I hope it is enough to attend.

I’m really looking forward to visiting the college again. Next time as a student, I hope. I already have a tank top, T-shirt, and a hat with the university’s name.

I even got a chance to hang out with William Shakespeare, Ghandi and Rosa Parks. Statues of famous historical figures are spread throughout the campus. Shakespeare and I took a picture together. He is a really cool person!

Boy, do I love that school.
