Making sense out of racist nonsense
“Nephew Tommy,” a.k.a. Thomas Miles, on The Steve Harvey Morning Show this week did a radio skit during which he repeated – several times – a statement that essentially boiled down to this: “Say one more thing about (blank), and I’m going to jump on you.”

It was done tongue-in-cheek and the names he filled in the blank with included President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.

That brings to mind Walt Baker, the now-former CEO of the Tennessee Hospitality Association, who reportedly considered it funny to send out an email that depicted Michelle Obama as a chimpanzee. Baker was fired.

Some would like to pound a little sense into Baker. Of course, that’s not a civilized response, and besides, it wouldn’t work.

Good sense can’t be driven into that deep of a hole. Baker would have to arrive at it after some self-reflection and time spent with someone possessing a toolbox full of enlightenment and patience.

Until then, he should stay away from “Nephew Tommy.”

Let's remember the more accurate and updated definition of racist:

Racist: 1. Slang: Extremely Disparaging and Offensive term for a white person. 2: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities, if promoted by white people. 3: a belief that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race, if promoted by white people.
