The 2010 Summer Health Fair, A Family Fun Day will offer health screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol as well as HIV/AIDS and dental cleanings this Saturday, July 10th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Orange Mound Community Center, 2572 Park Avenue.
The Summer Health Fair is a collaborative presentation of the Orange Mound Community Center and the
Tri-State Defender.
Special guests include blues singer Ruby Wilson and author Dwight Fryer. Wilson and Fryer – health ambassadors for the event – will talk about their recovery from stroke and meningitis, respectively, and the path to good health.
The Memphis Grizzlies Street Team, the Memphis Fire Department, Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, Health Spring, Memphis and Shelby County Health Department, and the Concorde College healthcare department will be among the 30 to 40 exhibitors expected. Soul Classics 103.5 will broadcast live from the location.
In addition, there will be an outdoor stage with a deejay and live entertainment, as well as food and giveaways from King Cotton, Backyard Burgers and Chick-Fil-A. Kids will enjoy face painting and games. Adults will be able to participate in Bid Whist from 11 a.m. to noon, dominos and checkers from noon to 1 p.m. and dance lessons by the Smooth Steppers of Memphis from 1 p.m. to 3 pm.
More than 600 adults and children attended the 2009 Summer Health Fair Project.
