Ask Myron: Viva Las Vegas…and L.A. too

When you work as hard as I do, it’s amazing what a little vacation will do for you.

I know of the saying that “What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas”. But I’d be wrong to keep all of this great info to myself. Las Vegas is truly the city that never sleeps. Or at least, I didn’t get much while I was there anyway. Neither did others. There were people walking around 24 hours a day. I must say that television does not do the bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip any justice at all.

All I could think about the whole time was the old Vegas perception; you know the one with Frank Sinatra, Jerry Lewis, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. If you’re old enough to remember the Rat Pack days, just know that there is actually a show playing that pays tribute to them.

Now, I’m not really a gambler. I only go to Tunica to eat. However, if gambling is your thing, there’s a lot it here. I mean there are slot machines everywhere, from the airport to Walmart. No kidding. This place is like Tunica on steroids.

Depending on where you stay in Vegas, you’d barely have a reason to leave the hotel. Most of them have stores and other attractions inside. And there is no shortage of food. One of the best attractions was the CBS Television Research Center at the MGM Grand. You get the chance to watch an upcoming TV show and give your opinion. Your feedback goes directly to TV executives. Be on the lookout for a show called “Mike & Molly” on CBS this fall. It’s very funny. They are also bringing back “Hawaii 5-0”. Remember that show?

There is hotel here called New York New York, and it pushes the New York City theme – Statue of Liberty and everything. It also has one of the best roller coasters I have ever been on. And then there is the Stratosphere, which has an observatory that’s about 112 stories high. You can look out over the entire strip from there. If you’re a real dare devil, you can also ride one of the four rides located at the very top. Needless to say, I didn’t.

While vacationing last week, I also got the chance to hang out in for a day. Since I will be spending a lot of time there in my near future and it’s just a four hour commute from Las Vegas to Hollywood, I figured why not take the drive? After visiting Universal Studios, I decided to drop by the world famous Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles. Yes, the food was good, really good. As a matter of fact it was so good, the ride back to Las Vegas was kind of tough to make. That stuff makes you sleepy. (lol)

All in all, my getaway was great, but now, it’s back to reality. The good news is I’m refreshed and good for another year! Next year, it’s Chicago!

On Another Note:

Be sure to check out the Basement Soul Lounge this Sunday night as we welcome local Harpist and singer Lyrica Holmes. Doors open at 6 and the show starts at 7 p.m.

Ask Myron:

Q: “Did rapper Foxy Brown go to jail for mooning someone?”

M. Thomas, Memphis

A: Well, sort of…she was arrested last week for violating a protective order filed by her neighbor. According to reports, she called the neighbor a dirty ***** and lifted her skirt to moon the woman while yelling for her to kiss her backside. Brown was charged with six criminal offenses, criminal contempt, menacing and harassment as well as public lewdness, which stemmed from her mooning move. Her lawyer, however, asserts her innocence.

Gee, Myron, I wished that I had connected with you while in Vegas! You were all over the place. I had a good time there as well, although I don't gamble. I had always wanted to see the place. I am glad that I did, because the strip was beautiful. I saw The Lion King, George Wallace, and attended the NBA games to name a few events.
