There’s been quite a variety in entertainment news over the past few days, and I’ve been tracking the craziness so that I could give you my take on it all.
‘American Idol’“American Idol” is gearing up for season 10 and changes are afoot as far as the judges. The show has given us such stars as Jennifer Hudson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia and Kelly Clarkson. But I’m starting to feel that “American Idol” has overstayed its welcome. You know, like the houseguests that should have moved out by now but for some strange reason they’re still living in your home. No matter how much they wash your dishes, cook dinner for you and clean your home, it’s really time for them to move out.
Montana FishburneI am pretty sure that Laurence Fishburne is dying inside in the wake of his daughter, Montana Fishburne, deciding to do porn to jumpstart her career. Inspired by Kim Kardashian, Montana Fishburne has concluded that a porn movie will do for her what it did for Kardashian. Did I mention that her dad is Laurence Fishburne? Of course I did. Keep in mind that her age still is measured in teen years, which may account for her loose grip on reality. Soon after I learned of this, I decided to have a l-o-o-o-ng talk with my 11-year-old daughter to just see what her aspirations were, and to make sure that we didn’t have any misunderstandings. I wouldn’t wanna have any surprises in about 8 years or so. (lol)
Unreleased Michael Jackson Material In the spirit of the late Tupac Shakur, we can expect to hear some new Michael Jackson music as early as the holiday season. In fact, we can expect to hear new Michael material for at least seven years. There are probably more than 100 unreleased Jackson songs that were recorded in the 80’s when he was at his most popular. Unfortunately, we will have to endure duet versions of most of them as other artists will be added such as Akon, NeYo and Will.i.am of the Black Eye Peas.
On Another Note: Wasn’t it good to see Grammy-winning jazz saxophonist and music educator Kirk Whalum sit in with the band on the “Tonight Show” with Jay Leno this week? I was very proud to see our own representing our city. Once they came back from commercial, I was like, “When are they gonna introduce the guy?” That was about the time they did. A big shout out to Whalum, new president and CEO of the Memphis-based Soulsville Foundation, and all the whole Stax crew. Also, check out Whalum’s new album, “Everything is Everything: The Music Of Donny Hathaway” set for release on Aug. 31st.
Ask Myron:Q: “Did Bill Cosby die?”
M. Jones, Memphis
A: No, Bill Cosby isn’t dead. As a matter of fact, the 73 year old is tweeting his fans just to prove that he is still alive. An Internet rumor that began circulating a few days ago said the veteran actor and comedian had passed away. But he is very much alive. I don’t know why people put rumors out like that. I guess you are not really famous until you have been rumored to be dead or gay.
Q: “Didn’t DJ Jazzy Jeff get married too?”
S. Richards, Memphis
A: Yes he did. With the high profile marriages of Alicia Keys and Swizz Beats, T.I. and Tiny and even Chelsea Clinton, it was kind of easy for ole Jazz’s to get overlooked. Jeff married Lynette Jackson in Jamaica on last Friday. He posted on his Twitter page, “Having a quiet moment reflecting on my life so far… I’m blessed beyond words and thankful for God bringing me an incredible life partner.” Congrats and best of luck to Jazzy Jeff as well as the others.
