Ask Myron: What’s up behind the curtains?
America seems to have a fascination with behind the scenes information or information that they are really “not supposed to see or know”.  Do you remember the first reality show on television? Some might say it was MTV’s “The Real World” on MTV, which debuted in 1992.  I say it was “COPS”, which debuted on the FOX network in March of 1989. Years – and many shows – later, America’s appetite for “behind the scenes” information has only increased.

I have been watching “Life After” on TV One for the past couple of weeks. The show is basically the same premise as “Unsung”; however, it is packaged a little differently. “Unsung” focuses on singers and musicians who never quite reached that high level of fame due to unplanned circumstances such as personal battles or even death.

On “Life After”, the focus is not only singers but actors and other famous people and their lives after their “big” thing. It could be a singer, rapper, actor or just a person who took advantage of some extraordinary circumstances. Case in point: “video vixen” Karinne Stephans who wrote a couple of books surrounding her sexual encounters with some of the biggest stars in sports and music.

I won’t give away any of the meat of any of the stories, even though I would like to dish it all out for you. If you haven’t caught the series this season yet, you have already missed about 4 episodes so far. So here’s an idea for you: Look up TV One’s “Life After” on YouTube.com, catch up on not only the four from this season, but the entire last season as well. Then, tune each Monday night to watch the rest of this season. You will be glued to your TV sets, trust me.

These shows are so intriguing because you know these people only through their music and the characters they portray on television and films. But there’s something compelling about finding out who they really are. Or even discovering that they are only human beings just like the rest of us. They have money problems, family issues, demons and bad habits. The only difference between them and us is that they are famous. They are still human though.

I will be tuning in to “Life After” next Monday night when they will feature actress Char Jackson. I’m pretty sure they will have her give the inside scoop on her baby daddy, K-Fed, and Britney Spears.

On Another Note:

If you know or have ever heard of Memphis Soul Artist Tim Terry, you’ll wanna get down to the Rumba Room this Sunday evening as he presents his latest album, “Born II Live”. It goes down at 7 this Sunday night at the Rumba Room located at 303 South Main Street in Downtown Memphis.

Ask Myron:

Q: “Is Singer Ledisi switching over to Gospel music?”

Franklin, Olive Branch, Miss.

A: No. Ledisi was the only non-gospel artist to perform at a tribute to the late Bishop Walter Hawkins. She has also performed at Bishop T.D. Jakes’ Potters House Church, the Essence Music Festival Gospel Salute as well as an episode of Celebration of Gospel. Although she enjoys being embraced in the Gospel arena, she has no plans of crossing over to do a gospel album. This October, you can catch Ledisi doing more Gospel when BET’S “Bobby Jones Gospel” returns for a new season. Ledisi, Are you sure you’re not looking to crossing over?
