Instead, Jones – interviewed in his office about the upcoming 21st Classic – was juiced about what will be unveiled at 5 p.m. in front of the historic Daisy Theater at 329 Beale St. on Sept. 10th. That’s when Jones will become the latest inductee into the Beale Street Brass Note Walk of Fame.

The event will take place on Friday during Classic Weekend.

“I can remember back to a couple of things. One was when I used to hear my parents talk about going to Beale St. Going to Beale St. was a big deal,” said Jones.

“Then I remember when I was in the band at Booker T. Washington and marching down and you turn down Beale St. and got to Handy Park and it was like a sea of people. I mean it was exciting,” he said.

Now Jones, an owner/limited partner of the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies, will be on Beale St. – sort of.

“It’s special. I’ve gotten a lot of awards, but I can’t think of anything that would be more gratifying than this,” he said from his office in Whitehaven.

In addition to the Classic, which this year will unfold Sept. 9th through Sept 12th, Jones has been bringing a diverse array of entertainers to Greater Memphis and booking them in every major venue around.

“Fred Jones plays a major role in Memphis music and entertainment, bringing joy to thousands of fans and bringing dollars to our local economy,” said Cato Walker, a member of the Note Committee.

“As an entertainment entrepreneur he is very deserving of recognition on the Brass Note Walk of Fame.”

The Beale Street Brass Note Walk of Fame was created in 1986 by Performa Entertainment Real Estate to connect the musical heritage of Beale Street with the entertainment district. Jones’ note will be the 93rd.
