In an effort to live up to the persona of being the “go to guy” for what’s happening around town and the world, I have decided to change the name of my column to “What’s Happening Myron!”

No need to fret. You will still get all of the latest info in the world of entertainment, plus my rants and raves on everything entertainment related. And you will still be able to send in your questions to “Ask Myron”. So keep the questions coming.

This is only the beginning. In the near future, there will be lots of exciting things coming your way as a result of the relationship I have been able to build with the Tri-State Defender. With that being said, I now present to you, “What’s Happening!”

Go Myron…It’s your birthday!

This weekend is gonna be BIG! It’s Labor Day weekend as well as my birthday. The highlight of the weekend will be at the Basement Soul Lounge on Sunday. An evening of great entertainment featuring Angie P will double as a birthday celebration. Not only will it be my birthday, it will be Angie P’s birthday as well. Come out and celebrate with us!

This will be Angie’s second appearance at the Basement Lounge. She kind of reminds me of Aretha Franklin in her younger years, maybe mixed with a little Lyn Collins and sprinkled with a little Fantasia. That’s a heck of a combination, don’t ya think?

I’m anticipating a full house, so get out there early…that’s if you want a seat. Join us at 303 South Main St. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7. Admission is $10. See you there. Feel free to bring gifts. (lol)

Congrats To Fred Jones Jr.!

Concert promoter and Southern Heritage Classics Founder Fred Jones Jr. is the latest inductee into the Beale Street Brass Note Walk of Fame. Come out and show your support on Friday, Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. in front of the New Daisy Theatre located at 329 Beale Street.

Looking ahead

Speaking of Mr. Jones, the 2010 Southern Heritage Classic is getting closer. That not only includes the big game, but other events such as the golf tournament and the fashion show as well. Stay tuned as I help the Tri-State Defender bring you details over the next couple of weeks.

Join me next week as I give you the details on my birthday weekend!

I will also fill you in on Mid-South Fashion Week, coming up at the end of September.

Until then, that’s what’s happening!

Ask Myron:

Q: “What ever happened to Divine Brown, the prostitute that was involved years ago with actor Hugh Grant?”

E. Thomas, Cordova

A: Divine Brown, who now goes by her real name, Stella Thompson, became famous back in 1995 after a $50 encounter with Grant. She credits the experience with helping turn her life around.

How so you might ask?

Well as a result of the whole incident, she was able to send her two oldest children to college and purchase a home for them to live in. Although she only got $50 from Grant that night, with the interviews and talk show appearances that came her way afterwards, she made that one thousand times over. She calls Grant the “trick” that changed her life.
