Haslam, the choice for governor

Haslam, the choice for governor
By Tri-State Defender Newsroom | Published  10/28/2010 | Editorial | Rating:
Edge goes to Knoxville mayor
The Tri-State Defender conducted interviews with both candidates in the race for Governor of Tennessee. Each candidate – Democrat Mike McWherter and Republican Bill Haslam – was asked a series of questions regarding his position on the issues and his campaign in general.

We were able to synthesize that information, along with additional available campaign information, to rate each candidate on the pertinent issues and make the critical decision to make an endorsement in the race. Each candidate is rated on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest.

Based upon higher ratings in the areas of Governance Experience and Effectiveness, and Job Creation/Economic Development, the Tri-State Defender is endorsing Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam as the next Governor of the Great State of Tennessee.

And regardless of whom you are backing, choose to vote on Nov. 2!

Certainly, I understand the need to support quality candidates from the Republican and Democratic parties. I've cast ballots, proudly, for Howard Baker and Arlen Specter because they took stands that earned my support.
An individual's wealth and business achievements do little to prepare him or her for challenges like joblessness and foreclosures, and minority business development. Success in one arena does not necessarily transfer to another. (In fact, I would argue that many of the problems we face today were brought by so-called "successful people."
African Americans must identify and support individuals who possess cultural competencies, active listening skills and the language to be savvy coalition builders.
Haslam does not seem to possess any of these traits, at least not to me. He must earn my trust and respect, before I can vote for him.

Black people of Memphis, surely you must know that Bernal Smith and the three or four little folk that make up the Tri-State Defender's crew there, are NOT making the endorsements or major decisions on behalf of blacks in Memphis. There loyalty is to THE OWNERS of Real Times Media, of whom Smith will not provide you with a full list of their names. Why? Because it consist of whites and Jews, locally and nationally, that are in absolute control of this newspaper, as are Jews and whites in many of our other black media, such as BET, Essence, and the vast majority of supposedly black radio, TV and print media nowadays. Smith and his crew there are just "bought and sold Negroes," doing the will of their white and Jewish masters. So you all need to DEMAND that Smith and Karanja Ajanaku tell you the truth about Real Times Media, and all that are involved. And inquire about Ajanaku's continued ties to the Commercial Appeal. --- Rev. George Brooks

When ever will we get the TRUTH from a news source, not just who they are paid to endorse. It appears that Haslam is not adequately qualified for the jobs in the areas that have a profound effect on the MAJORITY of the people of Memphis, more specifically the minority group!! Wake up people! When will we get a politician who TRUELY works for the people....because as of right now Im not satisfied with either candidate!
