LeMoyne-Owen College names Stovall Vice President of Institutional Advancement

The LeMoyne-Owen College Board of Trustees and President Johnnie B. Watson (Interim) today announced that Dr. William M. Stovall has joined the LeMoyne-Owen College family as Vice President of Institutional Advancement.

“Dr. Stovall brings a wealth of management and fundraising experience that will be beneficial in helping the College to achieve its goals,” said President Watson. “He is an extremely talented gentleman who has a clear, operational understanding of higher education and the ability to promote the College’s mission.”

Previously, Dr. Stovall served as Director of Development for the Division of Institutional Advancement at Central State University. His duties primarily included serving as chief development officer and overseeing the daily operations of the University’s advancement program.

Additionally, he managed a staff of seven professionals including the Directors of Alumni Relations, Annual Fund, Career Services, CSU Foundation, Planned Giving, a Development Research Analyst and a Grant Writer. His Central State University fundraising portfolio consisted of major, corporate and foundation and planned giving gifts. Under his leadership, the development operation at Central State University had tremendous growth and success.
 
More notably, the University successfully completed the Tom Joyner Foundation Campaign and was recognized as the top HBCU raising $850,000 for student scholarships.

Also, Dr. Stovall’s experiences entailed leadership, development positions at the University of Cincinnati Foundation and Kansas State University Foundation. At the University of Cincinnati Foundation, he served as Regional Director of Development, Southwest/West Coast region. The region consisted of the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah. His duties primarily entailed building and managing a portfolio of prospects with major and leadership gift potential, being responsible for 175-200 face-to-face visits annually and the management of regional committees.

At Kansas State University Foundation, Dr. Stovall served as Director of Development, Multicultural Programs. He administered the major gift program for the Office of Diversity and Dual Careers, working with deans, department heads and faculty and staff. Some of his accomplishments were attaining a corporate gift of $1.5 million from the Dow Chemical Company to establish minority scholarships in the Colleges of Business and Engineering, the conception of the Dow Resource Center for the University’s library and a gift of $150,000 from the Ford Motor Company Fund to establish minority scholarships for the College of Business’ graduate programs.

Dr. Stovall’s academic experiences also included serving as an Adjunct Professor at Central State University and Instructor at Mississippi Valley State University for the College of Education at both institutions.
 
He earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Missouri in 2004; his Master of Education from Mississippi State University in 1991; and his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Mississippi Valley State University. Also, Dr. Stovall holds a Certificate in Fundraising Management (CFRM) from The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University.
