Demonstration in support of AFSCME Workers
WHAT:
Nonviolent Direct Action Demonstration led by SCLC Memphis and the Memphis Baptist Ministerial Association
WHEN:
Tuesday, April 29th / 3:30 p.m.
WHERE:
In front of City Hall
PLAN OF ACTION:
Members of the Memphis Baptist Ministerial Association and Pastors of SCLC Memphis will arrive by bus at 3:30 pm. Pastors dressed in Pulpit Robes and carrying Bibles will form a processional.
The Ministers will pray, read scriptures and entreat the City Administration and City Council to answer the "numerous grievances of the Sanitation and Solid Waste Workers of the City of Memphis."
and fgive these workers the dignity and respect Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. came to Memphis 40 years ago to help them acquire.
Members of AFSCME Local 1733 will be participating in the demonstration by standing around the wall outside of the offices of Mayor Willie Herenton, the public works director and the chief administrative officer.
