By Dr. Karanja A. Ajanaku | Published  07/31/2008
Sister Louise Patterson, evangelist, community activist and wife of the late Bishop G.E. Patterson will present the Total Woman Women’s Conference 2008 on Aug. 2 at the Holiday Inn University of Memphis, 3700 Central Ave.

The one-day conference is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is designed to empower, uplift and enlighten women of all ages and faiths while focusing on issues impacting women and families.

This year attention will be given to the causes, concerns and solutions surrounding infant mortality, particularly in the African American community. Shelby County ranks high in infant deaths. According to the Shelby County Health Department, the overall mortality rate is 13.8 deaths per 1,000 births. The rate for African-American children is 19 deaths per 1,000 births, three times higher than the 6.9 percent among white infants.

The Total Woman’s Women’s Conference is a Bountiful Blessings community outreach event. It also will feature the introduction of gospel recording artist Dorinda Clark Cole’s new clothing line and a special salute to young women ages 13-18.

Shon Gables, host of the weekly, nationally syndicated “Black Enterprise Business Report, is the conference empowerment speaker. Gables is an award winding television journalist and movie producer. Her production company – Shon Gables Productions LLC – produced the “Mocha Manual to a Fabulous Pregnancy” DVD based upon the award winning book of the same title. Each conference attendee will receive a free DVD made possible by Gables and the Bountiful Blessings ministry.

Tickets to this year’s event are $40.
